Herman Boerhaave.... Hortus Botanicus

his garden was founded by Carolus Clusius in 1593-1594. The botanical garden was used by students in medicine and botany to study. They were given "on the side instruction" by a professor who would point the plants with a long pole and tell about their medicinal value. In the Hortus Botanicus the first tulip in Western Europe, imported from Turkey, came to flower.
