Theo van Doesburg eiden, city of Jan Lievens, Gerard Dou, Jan van Goyen, Frans, Jan and Willem van Mieris, Jan Steen and of course Rembrandt van Rijn. It is well known that many artists lived in Leiden during the Golden Age of the 17th century. Several of these Leiden painters even enjoy world renown. But in later years Leiden still was the birthplace of artistic developments. Theo van Doesburg, born Christiaan Emil Maria Küpper. This painter, writer, poet and designer lived from 1916 till 1921 in Leiden and founded "De Stijl".
